I have been slowly working on restoring a small pile of pipes given to me by a fellow pipesmoker. Amongst the reprobates is a Hardcastle Zulu that is in pretty decent shape, except the markers Hallmark on the stem has been removed, leaving a large discoloured spot in its wake.
Is there any way to remove this, or to dye the discoloured spot back to black? The material is vulcanite; but none of the usual tricks (bleach, oxyclean, etc.) seem to have any effect - and I am loathe to sand the stem down any further as it is already slightly smaller than the shank on the stummel, and being a light blast, sanding said shank could look funny.
