So I usually score a fair few quality pipes from the charity shops, you know.. the ones where people donate items that are in turned sold to raise funds for a charity.
I picked up a Pete mini churchwarden, and after an alcohol clean, a slight scrape and a week to dry, I tried it out..
within a couple of minutes, the left side of the bowl just started to burn. I dumped the bowl and noticed that the outter became indented and felt to the fingers ashy. Now, while it does not (yet) have a hole burned through, I suspect the left side is pretty much just ash.
Now, I've remoulded the stem for another pipe, I don't think I can salvage the bowl, but is there any value to retaining the sterling silver ferrule?
