I've been admiring some of the beautiful pipes in Rad's gallery, and I'm stuck. What is up with the metal in the bottom of the bowls?

It's just a metal ball bearing. The pipe is sitting on top of a magnetic stand, and the ball bearing allows the pipe to be arranged at any angle.

Well I'll be danged. I've looked through these for a week now trying to figure this out. I knew it looked like a ball bearing, but i never though about a ball bearing for a magnetic stand. This is one of the posts you wish you could take back... Lol.

Thanks for the explanation! The most frustrating part of pipe making for me is producing the pictures and getting the pipe to hold still...
