Ok, I had my 1st go at the pete 314. It gurgled . So, following something I read, I took a Dreml and created a smooth, rounded/tapered funnel-shaped crater in the end of the tenon (like the bell of a trumpet), about 3/16" deep, leaving just enough peripheral thickness at the end so it wasn't sharp, about 1/64". Then I bored out the draft hole to 5/32". Finally, using a 3/8" drill I deepened the moisture well by about 1/4". Into that 3/8"x1/4" secondary well I stuffed a bit of cotton wool. Oh my, what a difference! Smoked an entire bowl of Royal Yacht...sweet, cool and dry all the way down to the heel! When I was done I plucked the cotton out with a tweezer. It was pretty well soaked, but the briar was dry as a bone. (I may try it without the cotton next time, just to see). But with these mods my pete smokes exactly as they promise. Finally I have a pipe I can smoke in "polite company" without people watching me with a wet, nasty brown pipecleaner in my hand
