A friend on a watch collecting forum has recently taken up pipe smoking and has a Dr Grabow pipe - I've no idea how old it is but I don't think it is new.
He has a problem in that the stem is a very loose fit, but the tenon appears to be metal (see pictures). Now I am aware that some pipes have stingers (none of mine do) but this appears to be the tenon and not some extra attachment. I've not seen anything like it before.
His concern is that the fit is so loose it interferes with the smoking of the pipe.
So, does anyone have any ideas how the fit could be made tighter?
Thanks for looking,
