I play poker online quite often, not for real money mind.

While i was playing today an idea popped into my head.

The idea was how cool it might be if we all could somehow light a pipe, grab a glass and play a few hands of poker together while chatting.
Unfortunately i have no clue as to how we could go about this if it was deemed a good idea.
What do you guys think?

When folks say poker these days, 99% of the time they mean Texas Hold 'Em. Can I assume that's what you mean? I can beat anyone at 5-Card Draw, but unfortunately I'm out on Hold 'Em. Good idea though.
You already play online; it would seem guys could just sign up with whatever service you use. I had a client that played online for real money, and he had a program that would track every hand so he could see players' tendencies. Not sure what they would think about that if he had told them...

Hey, I'm from Manchester! Grew up in South Wales just north of Ammanford though (on the Brecon Beacons in a little farmhouse called Foel Uchaf), then moved to Colchester and then to Texas. six, do you do chess and do you know algebraic notation? If you do, I'll send you a move, but there will be trash-talking :)

what about this - this one is free but only plays one type of poker - texas holdem
excerpt from the web site link below :
What is HoldingNuts?

HoldingNuts open source poker client
HoldingNuts is an open source multi-platform poker client and server.
You can play the popular Texas Hold'em variant with people all over the world, meet your friends, run your own games and even setup your own poker-network.
end of excerpt
here is the web link
http://www.holdingnuts.net/
there should be other programs out there that you can get to play also
i have not looked at this yet but i would say that all you have to do is get the software and have someone run a server and each client that wants to play just connects to that server
i would be able to run such a server and anyone should be able to connect
this is another one -
looks like the lite version is $ 29 and allows 10 players
http://www.briggsoft.com/pmavens.htm
someone downloads the server software and installs it

then 10 people can connect and play
