Pinned and Glued broken stem fix?

I picked up some Charatan's with stem problems. One is an after hours with a hole in the top of the stem, I can fix that. The second one was listed as having a pinned and Glued stem to address a break. How does that fix work? Im not familiar with it.

That joint will fail, probably sooner than later. Butt joining broken stem pieces It isn't even acceptable practice. Someone just wanted to sell a pipe and didn't care that they'd leave the buyer holding the bag.
You need a complete new stem, in other words.

I picked this and an the After hours up for $50. Both have the Charatan of the Charatan Make stamp crossed out or obscured. What ever you call it what Dunhill did after it bought the company and old stocks. I will get that thing cleaned up so it can get to failing.
I kind of what it to break to see what this pinning is all about.
