Do any of you know the ranking of Peterson grades. I have Premier, Premier Selection, Supreme, DeLuxe, etc and would like to know the order of the grades from top to bottom (or vice versa)if you so choose.

Thanks.

Mike

I am talking about pipes from the 1960s to present. None of sites that have been suggested list the models in order of their grade.

For their current pipes, there are too many lines and special editions. It would be difficult to rank. From the 60's forward, it would have to be done be era.

Some years back I queried Tom Palmer about Pete's [de facto] grading by line, using wood quality as the metric:
This was his response:

Thanks George. The only one missing is Premier and Premier Selection. I would assume they rank above DeLuxe

Keep in mind the recent change in ownership. The new operators answered a query from me that the silver wind caps would return. They may change/improve grading also. It appears to me that the new ownership is making an attempt to take Peterson back to in halcyon days. I hope so.

Mark Irwin told me that the Premier Selection grade was just under the Deluxe. (not sure I've seen one with only "Premier".)

I could be wrong, but I think of Premier Selection as a pre-Republic grade. Here is a Pre-Republic Peterson's Premier Selection shape 69, block letter COM 1947-49. A wonderful smoking pipe.

You can see the markings have faded over time.

I think you are correct Dave. We see Premier System used in Republic era pipes, but I can't recall a Premier Selection that did not have a pre-Republic era COM.
