I never intended to purchase US bicentennial items, it just sort of happened. And let's face it, the Savinelli Linea 76 isn't actually a bicentennial pipe, it's a centennial pipe. But hey, can I help it that it's the same year as the US bicentennial?
It started in the mid 80's when I wanted to buy a Ruger Blackhawk .357, so when I went to my favorite pawn shop where I lived, they had two. A nice clean one, and an older one that showed some holster wear. However, it was stamped "Made in the 200th year of American LIberty", which was 1976. I thought it was a little more interesting, and it was $25 cheaper, so my first unplanned bicentennial item. Ten years later, I had a case of GAD and decided I needed another shotgun, and a local sporting goods store had some old stock from another store that had closed, and that included some Remington 870 Wingmasters. One of them was a bicentennial edition, and they were all $199, so you know, get the more interesting one, my second unplanned bicentennial item.
Now we come to the pipe. My wife has been agitating for a Savinelli pipe, that was obviously different from the three we already had, so she found this Linea 76 on ebay, and had to have it. Fortunate for me it didn't get very high, ($31) so she got a new pipe that needed a little work. Some bad staining from something spilled? on the briar, and a burn on the side of the shank and bowl rim. I managed to clean it up to her satisfaction, so she's happy. I thought it was funny that it was made the same year as two of the guns I had, so I decided it was now part of the unplanned bicentennial collection. Who knows what's next? Not really planning on anything though.
On a side note, I have not been able to find anything much about this pipe, other than it was made for Savinelli's 100th centennial celebration in 1976. I guess they were sold in pairs for the most part, but I can't seem to find anything about the somewhat odd styles they made, or the briar they used. Anybody got any info on these?

I didn't think pornography was permitted on this site. You're treading on thin ice here...any chance you'll open that fold out and show us the rest of that Wingmaster?
Great stuff!

All that I have to say is that you need one of these:

I have driven one out to my meadow, 12g under arm and thrower in tow, to shoot clays.

That tractor, a Cub Cadet Spirit, is a 1975 hydro, a 147, I think, but I never owned one.

The 1960 is the Original and was an 7hp three speed manual. By 1966, with the 122, hp was up to 12, the peak for manual transmission models. At one time, I owned six 122's! Hydrostatics produced in the mid 70's had up to 16 hp, but few of those were sold. There wasn't a 20hp available in a CC until after the name was sold to MTD.

Well holy crap! My wife didn't feel like smoking this pipe right now as she's still not feeling all that well, so I offered to smoke it for her. I gotta admit that this is a really niee smoking pipe! She smokes aros more than anything else, so I filled it with Drew Estates Central Park, and it was a great experience. I'm not a huge fan of aros, but this is a nice blend, and the pipe smokes just great. It's a comfortable shape to smoke, and the tobacco was a nice change of pace for me. Nothing but good to say about this pipe!

Don't know if I will look for another Linea 76 to smoke, but it's one of the best smoking Savinelli's I've smoked. :puffy:
