Meerschaum Pipe in Sunlight

Been considering a pricey meerschaum pipe in a cigar & pipe shop but it is usually in a south facing window with no amber shade to block the strong rays.

does meerschaum degrade same as a briar in sunlight over time ?

not sure how long it has been in the window.

My guess would be no degradation - but possibly some variation in the coloring, as the meer has a wax coating. Examine the pipe. If it looks good to you, then I'd say no problem.

Smok - but check the stem. Sun does attack rubber such as vulcanite. And even acrylics might craze with heat and UV.

I would be more worried about degradation of the stem material than the meerschaum itself.
