Im just about finished a ten year old tin of McConnell Scottish Flake. It’s been a very enjoyable tin, probably gifted to me through the Secret Santa Socialist Tobacco Redistribution Pilot Project.

Can anyone offer me a fair opinion of how the current version compares with what was available ten or so years ago?
I recently smoked a tin from 2005 I bought from Pipestud and a new tin that had a bought and I found them to be very similar. The aged tin was tastier and smoother but I thought the blend was the same. I stocked up and ordered 10 tins for aging.

Did you keep it in the tin the whole time rather than jar it? Good man!👍

I'm glad to hear it's a pretty consistent blend, according to those who've posted here. I've smoked on current iterations of the blend for a couple years now and have a couple aged tins sitting in my cellar. I really enjoy the current production of this blend and have wondered if it's changed like some of the other McConnell blends

I smoked some from the 70s a couple weeks ago. As in tin was opened in front of me and I packed a fresh bowl.

It was good but it wasn't leaps and bounds better than any other blend with a year or two of age on it.

I share this not to dissuade anyone from buying or aging tins but rather to give us newer smokers hope that recent and current production stuff is still worth stocking up on.

McConnel is one of my favorite blenders whoever makes it. I make a point to always have a few tins in my cellar for now and later....
