Wow, didn't know there were fellow metal heads on the forum!

I used to listen to an extremely wide variety of metal, but lately I've been gravitating towards instrumental metal (Pelican has always been a favorite, russian circles, red sparrowes, explosions in the sky, etc) as well as what tends to get labeled as "doom" or "stoner" metal (kyuss, kverletak, ISIS, mastodon, red fang, baroness, truckfighters, the sword, electric wizard, etc)
But when I'm listening to music and smoking and trying to relax, it's usually the "kind of blue" album.

Otherwise, it's whatever fits my mood!

misterlowercase, I grew up as a punk rocker myself, and most of that stuff is still my favorite to snowboard to. DRI, misfits, dead Kennedy's, agent orange, pre Rollins black flag.
I grew up in The Twin Cities, Minnesota, which has always had a thriving punk scene,

Particularly the crust punk metal scene like Misery, Assrash, D4, Quincy Punx, destroy, civil disobedience, subversives, etc.

Good stuff.
It was great growing up then!
I came up in Atlanta, so it was Neon Christ at the Metroplex...

We never had much of a good hardcore scene, but our noise scene was one of the best,

Lowlife magazine and WREK radio's Destroy All Music show,

that helped my "third ear" open, when I started listenin' to stuff like

Hanatarash

or

Merzbow

I just posted Merzbow because it's so good, none of the Atl stuff got much exposure or I can't find any,

Merzbow is from Japan.
I haven't been to Atl inna while, I kinda miss it.
Tune into 91.1 FM WREK while you're there and check it out,

late night programming is a cornucopia of diversity!

Nothing beats putting your feet up after a long day of work, having a nice dram of whisky, a pipe, and listening to some GG Allin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tilWlitkOiw

I was introduced to GG during summer holidays when I was about 12 years old watching the Jane Whitney show, and the show started with her stating that the interview you were about to see happened 3 days before he died. I remember thinking why would anyone in their right mind like Punk music? And then I got that teenage angst as a young adult. RIP GG, Bite it you scum.

The first punk show I ever attended was MDC in 1989. They were late, but it was a killer show. They played Chicken Squawk, Dick For Brains, Radioactive Chocolate and a lot of the classics. The place went berzerk, I had no idea that my first show would be one of the best I ever saw.
Along with my metal band, I do a one man hardcore project too. Even old pipe guys can rock out once in awhile...

Well.... yesterday at lunch, it was the eagles.
Literally, eagles. Maybe 50 of them, on the ice, scavenging the dead fish that the first beginnings of thaw are yielding.
And the ducks that were alarmed by them.
I almost always have my smokes on a shoreline where I work, away from all other activity. But when it's not nature's music, then the local country station, slow and easy smoking with long neck beer or, today, an ale.

Well sir, I sit down in my leather wingback chair, put on some brahms as I puff my Dunhill in front of the fireplace in my den, sipping on some 50 year old Glenfidditch.
Or, ya know, I put some Hank Sr. or Cash or 90's era country on while sitting in my plastic deck chair and sip some Yuengling.

Ravenwolf, ghost, either of you guys into Therion? I can't get enough of their stuff.
Misterlowercase, rsuniv, I was blasting Op Ivy all day today, although I have to say, Bad Religion still holds the #1 slot in my book.

Our weather has been perfect last couple of weeks... The best music has come from the chorus of various birds that come to feed in the evening at our feeders, pond and heavy woods beyond the pond. Last night we were treated to the songs of more than a dozen different birds while watching the dance of several ducks and geese (mating season, I suppose) and the hunting prowess of a Kingfisher and an Osprey. I wish these mild temps would stay year 'round but, alas, the sweltering heat of summer is just around the corner.

Count me in with the ISIS and Pelican and Agalloch metal dudes.
But usually I'm out walking the dog when I smoke, so it's more like doves and squirrels and owls and, if I'm lucky, osprey.
In the summer evenings, it's almost exclusively Detroit Tigers baseball with Dan Dickerson and Jim Price on the radio.

Though I typically listen to "Americana" for pleasure, when I smoke a pipe I like instrumental music such as jazz or classical.
That said, I also love listening to Prairie Home Companion while I smoke.
