KC Pipe Show Friday

While the show doesn't officially open until Saturday a lot of things go on on Friday. We have to get the tent setup and like to get that done by noon. Not much of a problem since we don't have to do the work. The tent company was there by 8AM and had it up by 10AM. We worked with the Argosy staff to be sure the exhibit hall was set up and ready by 4PM. They have to do the heavy lifting we just have to be sure they put things where we want them. Then we have to get all the tables prepped.
Once all that was done we opened the exhibit hall for registration and vendor set-up. Vendors really appreciate being able to get into the room on Friday night so they don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to do it.
Usually by mid-afternoon people start showing up in the tent to smoke and purchase their favorite adult beverage. In years past we have always had a buffet that people could take advantage of so they didn't have to leave the venue eat. Since the Argosy has several nice restaurants we decided to forgo this activity. The Argosy does have a buffet of their own which features all you can eat crab legs.
At 7PM we start up our vintage tobacco table. The purpose of this table is to offer to attendees a selection of tobacco (at club expense). This year the Club had a 55+ year old tin of Rattray's 7 Reserve with the cutter top, a 20-25 year old tin of royal warrant Dunhill 965, a 20 year old tin of McClelland's Christmas Cheer, a 20-25 year old tin of Drucquers & Son tobacco, and a 15 year-old tin of Haddo's Delight. Joe Ketcherside put up a 60 year old tin of Edgeworth Ready Rub. Tand Layne put up a 30 year old tin of the 3 Nuns, as well as two other well aged tins whose name I don't recall. Someone put a a cutter top tin of State Express cigarettes that turned out to be as fresh as the day they were tinned.

I love opera and Scott and I had a great, but all too brief chat about the Opera. Tyler Beard is just one of the key guys in the carving community.

I just love people who engage in random acts of kindness.
