This morning I received in the mail this excellent condition Jack H. Weinbeger freehand smooth finish, natural color pipe with an enormous bowl.

This pipe holds about a fourth of an ounce of tobacco. Yet somehow it’s light as a feather and clenches easily.

Jack H. Weinberger was a lawyer who retired from law to make pipes, and Jack wasn’t much on final finish. The bowl has ripples in the finish and it’s obviously hand turned, yet the stem is perfect, the drilling is excellent, and this pipe is a smoking machine, one of the best I own. It also has a chamber the size of the very largest Danish freehands I own.

It hangs perfectly, and feels like a quality pipe in the hand. Jack trained Mark Tinsky and other later craftsman, but he seems to have concentrated more on making huge pipes that smoked well than fancy, well finished pipes.

Price was $50 delivered. This will be one of my favorite outdoors pipes to sit out in the woods and enjoy a long, long smoke.
