Currently I'm readin novels by Jaroslav Hasek. We wrote a lot about life of shepherds in Easter Europe.
There are a lot of instances when shepherds would fill up their pipes with tobacco and place them onto the hot ashes next to the fireplace.
So, I assume those were clay pipes, but why would they do it in the first place? Weird way to dry your baccy?
