I think that movie Supersize Me wasn't about entertainment, but about education.
It seemed like drivel, but it had a purpose.
But yeah there was the overall feeling of being blungeoned with common sense and obviousness when I watched it.

It's a 6000 calorie burger?? Just the burger, bun and toppings? Man
That really shouldn't be that surprizing. A bowl of pasta with some creamy sauce at an italian joint can be up to 5000 calories, and it looks damn pretty doing it.
No one eats portion sizes anymore. It's all about how much bang you can get for your buck.

I'm with schmitzbitz on this one. Laughing all the way to the hospital, I guess.
There was a period of time where I didn't care about what I ate. I'm glad those days are over.

Frighteningly true - and if you look to the "Healthy Options" on a fast-food menu, you usually end up paying through the teeth. I've never understood how a 1/4 cheeseburger, large fries, and a gallon of pop only runs a fiver; but a few pieces of wilted (iceburg) lettuce with the ubiqutous carrot shavings (fast-food salad) and a bottle of water will run you a ten-spot.
Of course, that doesn't address the issue that said salad actually contains very little nutrition - in fact, once you load up the dressing, add some chicken, and toss in a few toppings, you've hit the same sugar, sodium and fat numbers as the burger and fries you tried to avoid.

I agree except that I would argue it may still be the better choice. While crappy iceberg lettuce could almost be considered empty calories, calorie content of most fast food options (burger, fries and soda) would be about as empty as it gets.
Here's my definition of fast food:

Blend and enjoy. And it's delicious.

1020mg sodium (43% daily value)

44g carbohydrates (15% daily value)

vs.
Tuscan Salad w/ chicken

346g total serving size

430 calories

21g fat (32% daily intake)

5g saturated fat (26% daily intake)

0.1% saturated fat

65mg cholestorol

510mg sodium (21% daily value)

36g carbohydrates (12% daily value)

6g fiber (24% daily value)

16g sugar

22g protein

Vitamin A Daily Value: 30%

Vitamin C Daily Value: 80%

Calcium Daily value: 20%

Iron Daily value: 30%
Which, of course, is accompanied by a packet of dressing; so we might as well toss that into the mix too!
Salad Dressing (Roasted Garlic):

42g total serving size

160 calories

16g fat (36% daily intake)

7g saturated fat (26% daily intake)

0.5% saturated fat

20mg cholestorol

320mg sodium (13% daily value)

3g carbohydrates (1% daily value)

0g fiber (0% daily value)

1g sugar

1g protein

Vitamin A Daily Value: 2%

Vitamin C Daily Value: 2%

Calcium Daily value: 2%

Iron Daily value: 0%
So, the salad actually looks like this:

590 calories vs 540 for the Big Mac

37g fat (68% DV) vs 29g (45% DV) for the Big Mac

13g Saturated fat (79% DV) vs 10g (53% DV) for the Big Mac

0.6g transfat vs 0.5 for the Big Mac

85mg cholestorol vs. 70mg for the Big Mac

830mg sodium (34% DV) vs. 1020mg (43% DV) for the Big Mac

39g carbohydrates (13% DV) vs. 44g (15% DV) for the Big Mac

6g fiber (24% DV) vs. 3g (12% DV) for the Big Mac

17g of sugar vs. 9g for the Big Mac

23g of protein vs 24g for the Big Mac
Certainly, the salad offers more nutrition by way of vitamins, but if you think it's really that much better for you than the Big Mac; you're fooling yourself...the huge hits of sodium, fats, and cholestorol still suck! It's a real pickle though, when you look at how food is marketed, a product that contains 100% of your daily fat intake sells as Sugar Free; and people looking for healthy options jump all over it! The claim is honest - just doesn't tell the whole story...much like the greasy salads. I do agree that the salad is the better option; particularly if you toss the dressing, and ignore the fried "Grilled" chicken...just figured it would be an interesting excersize to see how the products compare.

Wow, that's just sad! I don't care much for McDonald's anyway, but to make a salad as fattening as a Big Mac takes a lot of talent!

I see spinach, cucumber and grapes, is there more in there?
Sure is, here's the recipe:

about 40 grapes

1/2 - 1 whole mostly (or completely) peeled cucumber

1/2 avacado

load up on spinach (2-3 cups or a few handfuls)

squeeze 1/2 - 1 whole lemon (1/2 goes further than people tend to think)

small pinch of sea salt if you want
That fills about 2 big glasses (typical can of soda with some ice for size). 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch. If you don't eat it in about a day, best to freeze it in a freezer safe mason jar.
Good stuff. Got a few others we use as well.

4-5 Strawberries

1 handful blueberries

a squeeze of Hershey's Dark Syrup

6 Tbsp Whey protein

6 Tbsp Soy Protein
I drink this after every trip to the gym and use it to wash down a handful of vitamins.
