I cut into the edge at a 45 vertical angel, and then whatever awkward horizontal angle hovering over the board on my knees put me at -- the first board I tried to basically just set the blade down on the wood and go straight through (I know I used a press kind of saw in woodshop all those years ago) but apparently that is way too much resistance, the wood got really hot and a sizeable chunk burst out of it.
Awell, lesson learned. I think next time if I try it on table instead most of my biggest problems will be solved.
