I was just thinking of updating my advice to new smokers. Just do it and then ask questions when you have problems. The only hard and fast rules with pipe smoking are all in the realm of physics. Yeah if you puff fast you increase the tempature and the chance of burn. What temp and such you enjoy probably fits in a range. But at the end of the day it's your pipe and it's there to make you happy and the caveat is we can help but we can't tell you what to do.
