Made from a nail, heated till it's cherry red and then bent and hammered into the right shape needed. Some grinding done, then heated again to oil blacken it with a finish to help prevent rust.
Nice. I forge as a part time job, and I'm constantly losing my tampers, so I just forge a punch and then they are "disposable" and I don't have to worry about losing them. Be careful about using galvanized nails as a base.
@ akfilm, yea I stay away from galvanized as a rule when I do welding and I don't believe this nail was galvanized, but I will keep that in mind next time.... Thanks
