thing is, the gas off the fermentation of the silage is poisonous and will kill you dead very quickly.
lost 2/3s of the pigs one year after filling the stave silo and wound up with wet damp weather with a breeze that blew the fermintation gas into a farrowing house... kinda sickening to spend a day dragging dead sows and baby pigs out to the rendering truck.

Silo gas is bad news.

the pigs were made into dog food, there was no insurance.
every year farmers die from silo gas and gas from manure pits.
