The recent discussion about Edward's pipes made me want to show off one of mine. I have not smoked this pipe, it is one of the very few pipes that I own just to "collect".
When Don Drew, the former owner of the Lakeland Edward's location, passed away, his wife sold off his own personal smokers through the store. I was lucky enough to get a phone call when those pipes went up for sale, and I landed three of them for myself: An Ardor Meteora Canadian, a Stanwell bamboo shanked billiard, and this Edward's freehand. The Ardor and Stanwell have been folded into my regular rotation... but this Edward's is displayed in a place of honor on my bookcase in remembrance of Don Drew. :D

Freehands are not my main event, though I have two (not Edwards) that I hold dear, both gifts. This is truly a magnificent pipe. I'm so glad it landed in trustworthy and appreciative hands.

Freehands are not my main event,
Yeah... That's why I don't smoke this one. Ten or fifteen years ago, I was all about freehands! The wilder, the better!
These days though... I'll take a nice straight billiard!

It's cool that you have a pipe belonging to Mr. Drew. I'm no fan of freehands but that one appeals to me more than most. I recently re-stemmed an Edwards freehand--for the second time- that is one of the ugliest pipes I've seen. The old gent who owns it loves it !

I don't particularly care for freehands; however, having said that, I find yours to be beautiful. Perhaps more so for the story behind it, and I imagine that Mr. Drew would have been pleased that his pipes went to appreciative caretakers like you.
