Well folks, after a pretty exhaustive search of Parish Registers, census records (both UK, Canadian and US) and military records proved fruitless.
I did find a couple of Waterfield families in the area but alas no D L Waterfield.
This one is going to have to be shelved until fresh information presents itself.
Sorry for the let down chaps but your thoughts and suggestions were much appreciated.
Should I get lucky with more info then I will present it here.
Regards,
Jay.

The only thing I would add is often in times past, private vessels and crew was conscripted into service for specific service. This was true at Dunkirk as well as after the war to bring the boys home quickly. I have seen it done in more modern times but that is usually kept off the books for obvious reasons. I have been inserted and extracted a time or two using a local private vessel
