A bit of scrap stem after only two hours soaking with a denture tablet (steradent) says on the tube they are safe to use with metal also.

What did the piece look like before soaking? It appears to still have fairly heavy oxidation.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. The stem was just dirty but still well coloured before the soak. After the soak is the picture above showing the oxidisation drawn out by the tablet in the same way as with a bleach soak.

how much water you soak that in. I have some sitting around I tried last week for some stems, didn't dent the oxidation or bring it out.

Yes the surface becomes rough and dry almost like limescale and then is removed with wet and dry paper.

One tablet in half a jam jar of water.

Sorry again for lack of clarity I trying a few more experiments and will report back.

Hope this helps a bit

An estate pipe stem which on reciept I washed with toothbrush, warm water and sanitised with deniclean and buffed up with Savenelli stem polish. Then smoked.

Today I suspended it in half a jam jar of water and dropped in a denture tablet. Four hours later I tooked it out ran it under the tap and left it.

Above is the result. Hope this helps.
