My Dad worked at IBM in Chicago through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and into the 80’s. He has been dead for 30 years now. They all smoked pipes then, and of course right in the office. This was his tobacco jar which sat on his desk at work. My brother and I both suspect that Dad and his colleagues occasionally dabbled in the “wacky” type of tobacco but for the most part they were solid traditional conservative pipesmokers. It was just a leisurely half-mile walk down Wabash Avenue from “One IBM Plaza” across the river to Iwan Ries. They were regulars there. The words politically correct did not even exist yet. I envy them.
