Was wondering if any one knows of any sites that sell long stemmed clay pipes or if they have one to sell themselves? I have a very small clay that I like ( the only type that I can find around here) but the stem is too small to comfortable hold.

Clay pipes are great English blend smokers, but the pricing of pipesand cigars is plain wrong

You're welcome. And yeah, it seems we can always find a cheaper one after we buy something. LOL.
I did find some online for around ten bucks, but they don't have the coating on the bit to prevent it sticking to your lips.

I've also been wanting to try a clay. Is the red color at the end the coating needed to protect your lips? I spotted one on ebay shaped as an owl that I like. It has the red color at the end. I'm thinking this is the coating your talking about?

Dawmist Studios is an awesome site for researching clays. Never ordered one from her, but I would expect them to be very high quality.

I like Ebay myself.

If you can save this search, http://tiny.cc/29ggs

it should show you just about every clay on Ebay

I'd watch all the auctions on Ebay for a few weeks and look for a deal.

There is a guy who is making clays in Germany from historic molds, he usually list his auctions with 3 different styles in each auction, but I couldn't find any of his listed right now. I'd keep an eye out for him . He makes them with black clay, as well as white.

Heres a couple interesting auctions right now;

Well, I should have used the word "glazing" instead of "coating", but yes many of them glaze the mouth end so it doesn't stick. The glaze is usually colored.

I had thought of picking up some plastic dip from home depot to dip the stem ends into. Its for dipping tool handles into, but I've never used it myself. I believe you can find it in the paint section, might be the ticket for making a clay stem easier on the mouth.

BB, nice pipe. I really like the 1600's pipes he has for sale.

Its interesting to see, the further you go back in time, the more valuable tobacco was, and the smaller the pipes get. I imagine you could barely get the end of your pinky finger into those bowls.

Dan Pipe is a reputable German online tobacco shop. That would be my hint to good clays for a realistic price. The small clays have a diameter of 5/8 inches and the bigger ones a diameter of 13/16 (estimate).

They are small chambers. Thinking that all those old clays played a large part in funding the American colonists makes them even more nice to look at. In England their are guys that go digging in the mud on the banks of the Thames and pull up broken clays. Kinda like we hunt for arrow heads back home. The tradition of each football (soccer) team having it's own clay, you can still see these hooligans barraling down the street with their teams clay. Will be fun to smoke a strong blend in a really small bowl and see what happens. I've never smoked a clay in my life. At the Tobak museum in Sweden they say there is a great clay pipe department. I still have that on my to do list. I've put off buying a clay cause I read a thread where someone described burning the top of their mouth really badly and the skin even came off the top of their mouth. That made me a little gun shy about clay pipes.
