I acquired this 1940 patent Dunhill that may be in the nicest shape of any vintage smooth I’ve had. The stamping is throwing me a curveball, though.
It’s most definitely a 1940 from the patent and date code. But following the date code is a uppercase D, followed by an A with a small square, and the numbers 34 + 2.
The A denotes a bruyere finish, but I haven’t seen one with a small square (and it’s usually on the other side of the pipe). 34 is the shape, but what’s with the + 2?
Would love to hear some input from those who know, I’m researching but haven’t found anything yet. Photos below!
