Sherlock Holmes smokes VA and VAPer / Dr. Watson smokes Latakia and orientals

In one story, "The Crooked Man," Holmes called on Watson (then married and in medical practice) at his home. Holmes remarked "Hum! You still smoke the Arcadia mixture of your bachelor days, then! There's no mistaking that fluffy ash upon your coat." Since Holmes was in the habit of keeping his...

    Did Sutliff discontinue some tins?

I'd heard a few weeks ago about some Sutliff blends being discontinued, and sent them an E-mail to ask about it. The reply I got said, in effect, that no blends were being permanently discontinued-- most were being put on a temporary hiatus, and would be brought back eventually. In some cases...

    Haunted Bookshop

I've yet to try the tobacco by that name, but that book is an old favorite of mine. Morley wrote an earlier book that featured Roger Mifflin, the pipe-smoking proprietor of the Haunted Bookshop-- Parnassus on Wheels.

    Origins of User Names?

Since I'm sort of a backward person, I simply spelled the name of one of my favorite tobaccos backwards.

I can say that I got very good and very fast service from them when I bought a pipe from them a few months ago-- got a nice Savinelli Saturnia at a good price.

Yes, Virgina, Santa Smokes a Pipe!

    Peterson Tobacco

I like Irish Oak, Old Dublin and Irish Whiskey. I wanted to like Irish Flake, but the anise flavoring leaves me with a nasty, bitter aftertaste that refuses to go away for hours. Dissapointing for me, but it doesn't seem to affect anyone else that way.

    Small and Compact Pipes..

Maybe a Savinelli Piuma? They're compact and generally sell for under $40. I've never owned a Piuma, but would expect them to be decent pipes.

    Peterson's Irish Whiskey

I recently finished my first tin of Peterson Irish Whiskey. I enjoyed it a lot, especially in an after-dinner pipe. I found that it improved after I left the top off the tin to "air out" the tobacco for a couple days-- better moisture level and more intense flavor.

    Nicotine Lightweight or Not?

My tolerance seems to be on the high side; I've yet to get the wobbles from even the strongest pipe tobaccos.

    Annoyed With Facebook

I found Facebook to be a big time-waster. I'm really not interested in reading about casual acquaintances' every belch and sneeze, which they seem to feel obliged to post on FB. I doubt that they were any more interested in the trivialities of my life than I was in theirs. Special-interest...
