Sorry I haven't responded, been working and studying for finals. Well, a little update is due. My dads pipe was one of those gourd meerschaum pipes often associated with Sherlock Holmes. My dad has a meerschaum pipe. He read that he was supposed to clean it often, so he took some everclear and wiped around the inside, and the dark stuff (cake?) just smeared. Should he have done that? If not, what should he do?- charlie
