    Dog's and Pipes

My German short-haired pointer is crazy about chasing smoke rings, also pesters like crazy when he sees any snuff.

    Matches or Lighters?

Virtually always use matches, in particular Swan Vestas as they're the only matches I've found in the UK that you can light off any surface. It's surprising how quickly you learn to use matches in the wind.

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

Hahahaha, never thought of it in that light, and now I'll probably struggle to think of it any other way :P

    What Is Your Personal Motto?

Always liked the old school motto "Sapere Aude" - Dare to be wise But I've probably found Churchill's motto to be rather more helpful, 'Keep Buggering On'.

What do your friends and family think?

Family are quite happy about it. My maternal grandfather had half of one lung chopped out in the 1960's due to cancer, but the doctors told him he was fine to continue with pipes, so nobody ever raised any objections. The girlfriend absolutely loves the smell and likes to try a couple of puffs...

And you thought you were stared at in the US

I remember one morning walking through Piccadilly Circus in a suit, overcoat and trilby whilst smoking my pipe, only to be pinned in position and photographed by a bus-load of Japanese tourists

Ever Fallen Asleep Smoking A Pipe?

I've had it happen a couple of times, but only whilst smoking in a hammock, usually wake up covered in ash though :P

Are Savinelli pipes really that great?

Just got the one Savinelli, a Roma pot, but its easily my favourite pipe. I had the chance to visit their shop in Milan a few months ago and that was full of what I regarded as really beautiful pipes.

English vs. American Pipe Smoking History

In what I suspect what might be a vain attempt to return the thread to topic ;): Judging by the pipes I inherited from my grandfather, who unfortunately died in the mid 70's, Hardcastle's were the local equivalent of the cheap 'drugstore' pipe. He would buy all his from the local tobacconists...

Finally Found A Worthy Sig Picture

Fantastic! If I remember rightly didn't Clarkson go on to but the pipe in his mouth back-to-front with rather humorous results?

    Smoking Indoors?

I often smoke inside and I've never really had a problem with the smell lingering. If I ever feel the smell is hanging around I just open a window and it seems to disappear pretty soon.

    My Penn Valley Clay Pipe

Wow, that's a beautiful clay pipe. I love my little clay and always use it for the first bowl of a new tobacco. I hope it's as good to smoke as it is to look at !
