Curious about these Zippo inserts that use Butane gas. I'm not a huge fan of the standard Zippo odor/taste and these seem to be a work around. Any of y'uns out there tried one of these? Do they work well? Thanks for your input.

There's people on here that use/like them but I'm not a big fan. You have to keep the trigger depressed to keep the flame going (unlike the zippo gas version) and its poor in windy conditions outside (unlike the zippo gas version). So if you already have a nice butane soft flame lighter, I can't recommend it.
There’s no flame adjustment. Mine just sits on the desk because of that essentially useless other than lighting a cigar.
I use a regular Zippo with a pipe insert. Let the flame burn for a few seconds to let the fuel taste burn off.
I've had good results with the Zpipe butane insert...been very reliable, and it does have a flame adjustment.
I have a couple. They do work well and are orderless. I used to use them on my cigars but the fuel tank is too small. Better for pipes though. If you do like Zippo and smoke cigars, on Amazon they have one that when you light it its a torch but when you let go its soft flame and shutting the lid puts it out. Works great if you smoke both.
Obviously, everyone's tastes are different, but I only faintly notice the lighter fluid taste and even still, it's gone after 2-3 puffs after lighting, so for me, it's not worth the insert. I just have a bic for that.
The Zippo butane insert has a huge, non-adjustable flame. I have one, and I like it, but it's a big flame.
Butane lighters usually suck in breezy/windy conditions, so for me, that kind of defeats the zippo’s purpose.
I don’t like carrying a fluid filled zippo in my pocket and no longer smoke cigarettes so won't carry in a belt pouch, so I not too drawn to a zippo currently.

I have tried the Z-PIPE insert but my first 2 fell in bits after just a few weeks, then tried a Thunderbird one, lasted 2 Months then packed up, now I use Genuine Zippo Butane inserts and they have been very reliable with no problems.
Well hell, I may have to look over the Chinese manufacturing of them. That sounds perfect.
The Zippo brand soft flame has been discussed in other threads a bit, and the consensus seems to be that the lack of a flame adjustment is a deal breaker. I have one and I don't use it for that reason. Go Vols, y'all!
For a visual, the flame is as tall or taller than the lighter itself.
The side flame is the one I am talking about. There is no adjusting it, and it can easily scorch a pipe, if not very cautious.
Ahh OK, you have to be a bit careful, but it’s doable. The straight up flame one above would concern me. Lots complain about that one for pipe smoking.
Z pipe inserts are adjustable. I’ve been using two of them for about 4 years with no issues.
