Zippo Standard or Pipe Insert?

I like zippo lighters to light my pipe. I have three of them at the moment and one has the pipe lighter insert. Do you prefer the standard or pipe insert ? I tend towards the regular zippo as I think it lights a full pipe better and provides an even charring light.

I also have 3 Zippos (2 pipe, 1 regular as well as a Kiribi, and a Beattie). The regular was a gift and I have not used it yet so I'm not sure. But, I can't see it making much of a difference if you trim the wick right.

Using a regular zippo you run a higher risk of charing the rim your pipe in my opinion. I use a zippo with a pipe insert.

I got a regular 1 used to smoking cigarette and buy a pipe insert for now.
I stand for the pipe one because its easy to draw in the fire. Hold it above the rim and puff, giving a round relevant fire without buring the rim. And watching the fire drawing in from the zippo is kind of comforting

I have one of each. Prefer the pipe insert. Zippo is great when it’s windy otherwise I just use my Oldboy.

I have a couple zippos with the pipe insert. I like it much better than the standard…I also have some long bic lighters and a Kiribi…I just use what’s handy

I've just stuck to using the pipe insert.

The regular insert is better for the starting lights in my opinion, but the pipe is better for just about everything else, and it has enough wind resistance for my needs.

I use a Qtip and isopropyl alcohol.

Pipe inserts work great for me.

Old Boy, Peterson, Beattie can be more "focused" but I just reach for whatever is handy and has fuel most of the time.

I use lighter fluid and a little steel wool. Clear’s right off.

Has anyone tried the "Z-Pipe!" butane insert? Been curious to try it, but haven't yet.
