Zippo Replacement Parts Help

Looking to replace some missing parts from my Zippo. I'm going to give it another try with the Zippo.

I think I need a new wick, flints, and the 'metal grate cover thing'.

The flints and wick i should be able to get online, but can anyone point out where I can get that grate / cover piece?

Or am I better off getting a Thunderbird-style butane insert?

You could try emailing Zippo to see if they have some at their place. You may have to explain what the "metal grate cover thing" is. They may even be able to help you with the wick and flints.

I would try Zippo too. I call it the chimney cover, but that's probably not right either. They just pop on and off, hence the trouble sometimes. I've lost it and recovered mine, but there'll come a day when I won't...

Yeah. Top cover is missing. Emailing Zippo is the best bet.

You can order the whole insert from Zippo, Amazon or Walmart. Walmart sells the whole Silver Chrome lighter for 10.97. I was looking to refurbish some old ones too and am debating which method to do it - cheap = do it myself; more expensive = buy new inserts.

Addendum: I can buy the wicks, flints and cotton balls and spend time replacing everything but for about $3.00 more I can just buy the chrome lighter and switch the insert in 2-3 seconds. Time/value of money.
As for the chimney --- check ebay also ... someone has the inserts for a few bucks used --- you could just swap it. Less than 2 cents advice. Good Luck.

If it's a Zippo insert, I'd send it to them. You'll probably get a new insert wick and flint.

Just for this thread, and pursuit of further knowledge, I'm sending an email to how they will respond to sending few chimney cover for pipe insert. I need few anyway.

Looks like the repair location for Canada is just in Niagara Falls, so not that far away.

I'm going to send it in and see what they can do. Doesn't cost anything except the cost of mailing it. Thanks guys!

I've sent a couple of lighters in for adjustment of hinges and the like, they were returned promptly with new inserts. Exchanging a regular for a pipe insert was easy peasy.

Interesting. I didn't realize the chimney top was a separate piece. I just popped mine off to check it out.

I'm guessing Zippo will just send you a new insert, so you'll get a wick and flint with it. Get yourself some back ups too.

On a related note, I've tried both the Zippo and Thunderbird Butane Pipe Inserts and the old-school naphtha fuel Zippo pipe insert is better than both. The Zippo Butane insert has a hole only on one side and you have to keep your finger on the fuel button, so I often burn my fingers. The Thunderbird insert failed after a month and KGM wanted me to ship it back on my dime and send along $5 to ship a replacement. The thing only cost $15!
