First of all you should understand that liquid is not burning, so wick not burning itself, but fumes is. And it will burn in that direction how the wick is twisted, just across it.
Newer taste of oil or gasoline, ore anything else. You just need to use Zippo original fluid.
And ones again... PLAY WITH THE WICK!!!
Not with John Wick... it's can be deadly?
Ive been smoking cigars for over 20 years. No one used a zippo because of the zippo fluid taste. Not sure why that doesn’t apply to pipes.

And yeah, I undesertand that the fluid doesn’t not burn, the vapor does.

I using Zippo with cigars and sometimes with my pipes, I always used it with cigarets and newer feeling the taste of gasoline ore whatever. I think it's very individual.

You know, that could be. Perhaps I need to give it a go. After all, who doesn't like a zippo.

Lots of us don't like the smell of the fluid, necessity to refill frequently, and the odor of the flame.

OTOH, the Zippo is the U.S. lighting instrument, is nostalgic, and works in winds up to about 20 kts. I have several, but use them only when required.

So I love Zippos for the above, but not for lighting a pipe!

I like the smell of Zippo. Brings back a lot of memories. Budweiser, Marlboro Red and Zippo. They were like my best friends from junior high to freshman year at college. In college, went for cheaper beer.

You all just confirmed my decision not to go with a Zippo for pipe smoking. While I love the nostalgia and appearance, just too much for which to be bothered. I prefer a lighter that points the flame. I've gotten used to the Lotus now and it performs pretty well all the time.

I have a Zippo with a pipe insert, a Clipper pipe lighter, a Bic EZReach and a bunch of Linse lighters. They all work great but the Zippo is the only one that works reliably in a breeze. My Old Boy, which I've since lost, crapped out on me; it'd spark and gas hissed out but it wouldn't ignite (unless you used another flame to start it up).
