Wooden kitchen matches are preferable to me, but use a Zippo when it's windy or some place like the shooting range and matches aren't handy. Have my father's Zippo he carried in WWII and another that was my grandfather's with his signature engraved on it. Just order a Zippo pipe lighter from pipesandcigars.com.

checotah you can get a pipe insert for your current zippos for free by emailing Zippo. Some people have had to send their lighters to the company to get a free insert. I however emailed them stating I have a standard zippo and they just sent it to me.

The beauty of Zippos is that the cases last forever. I'm using a case my late father used when he was in his 20's.It has a picture of the statue of Liberty on it which has practically worn off but it'll last for another 50 years and beyond.
I also confess that sometimes, as fuel is running out, I've actually rested the lighter on the rim of the pipe and NEVER scorched the rim. Zippos just work.
By the way, I've used the same insert for 10 years now and never changed or even adjusted the wick. Has anyone, ever?
