I'm a big fan of that combo. Now you made me want to bust out the Haunted Bookshop. Just had some mixed with another good old Va/Bur: Half and Half.

it really opens up into something wonderful when you smoke it like that. It becomes much more then people claim it is when you smoke it like that. Lots of little flavors start coming out.My experience with 5 Bros exactly. Pack it tight, give it the slightest light, and sip.

VaBurs deserve their own thread IMO. You get into stuff like GH Brown and Rum Flakes all the way into stouter fare like GH Dark Flake, 1792 and Rattray's Stirling Flake and I really can't talk about them in the same breath as Burleys. VaBurs are an indispensable sub-category and I usually end my day with one.
Agreed, it's night and day difference from just smoking it down mindlessly. More so with 5 Bros than others I think. Semois is the same way.it really opens up into something wonderful when you smoke it like that. It becomes much more then people claim it is when you smoke it like that. Lots of little flavors start coming out.
I am going to be lazy and say that, you cannot go wrong with @Casual’s list.
- Sutliff Ready Rubbed Match
- Mac Baren London Burley
- Manil Semois, any cut
- Mac Baren Old Dark Fired
- Stokkebye 41 Cube Cut
Some special mentions, to include the great burley flakes:
I’m sure there are more. For an easy inexpensive introduction, Amphora Burley can’t be beat.

I find it unpalatable and at $7.98/ounce, it exceeds my personal limit on what I will pay for tobacco. No Semois? Pourquoi?

All the burleys mentioned so far are excellent. I will posit that Cornell and Diehl Burley Flake #1, #3, & #5 are amazing. #1 & #3 will knock you flat if you're not acclimated though, so beware! If you want something lighter on the nicotine, then go with Solani Aged Burley Flake, it's absolutely lovely.Curious about exploring more burley blends.
Would appreciate to hear about your top five faves.
I was gifted some Le Petit Robin LA Brameuse last year and really didn't care for them in a pipe. Being a primarily Virginia/Oriental smoker, I like burley as a component, not the star. Semois makes for an excellent chew though. You don't like any of them from Manil?

Two reasons. I'm not much of a Burley fan so there's not a lot of competition. ESB is a great blend. Ray choice.ESB is already among your favorites. Damn, that was fast.
