I would say that I am relatively not very sensitive to nicotine. But, there are rare occassions where the face/arms go numb and nause sets it. I usually try not to smoke on an empty stomach, and have something sweet in case it hits. Sometimes, like now, i turn green in the gills. Smoking the 2020 C&D Caroline Red Flake with Perique and boy, i may as well be on a ship with 100ft swells.

I had to pull out the white flag and end it on the last third. When this happens, do you let it rest, or just keep going? Turns into a not so enjoyable experience

I keep those little bites of Halloween size chocolates by my smoking chair for my evening heavy hitter smoke. When I feel the spins coming on, I just chomp one, and voila, it's gone.

Despite what many say, nicotine is not a traditional stimulant. In the way we ingest it via the pipe, it is more of a sedative, but it doesn't neatly fit into either category. What it does is release stored sugars into the blood stream, and once the sugars are depleted, nausea sets in. So, a bite of sugar quells that feeling fast.

I always take a break if I start to feel the nic shakes coming on. This happens more often when I have a cigar than a pipe. I find being prepared to smoke helps avoid this problem, having had a meal beforehand, and being hydrated especially helps.

I've found that when it gets bad enough; if it sneaks up on me before I can take a break in time, eating really does help, sweets especially, ginger ale or sweet soda too. I've had it bad enough a few times that I've actually eaten a spoonful of sugar as an emergency remedy and that works like a charm too.

That only ever happens to me with GH dark flake.
I know it's going to happen, so I stay aware and stop before I get into a helpless state.
Damn strong stuff. don't drive or use machinery.
That one and G&H Birdseye &/or Kentucky get me too if I’m not paying attention. About the only other blend that I have to be careful around is Warhorse - that one kicked my ass a couple of times before I set aside my smallest pipe to enjoy it. Now I just know better than to load up a large pipe with it.

Interesting. I’ve often wondered why my drink of choice when smoking is to sip on a Coke. (Not Pepsi. Coke > Pepsi. I’ll not entertain any contrary suggestions.) But I really only do this when smoking English blends. If I’m smoking sweet Virginias, or even an aro, I don’t like the sweetness of the drink competing with the sweetness of the tobacco. So with those, I’ll either sip ice water, sparkling water, or bourbon.

I always just thought it was the contrast between the tobacco and the Coke, with the Coke helping to compliment and bring out the tobacco flavors more. Which it’s partly that. But now, I’m wondering if there’s also a body chemistry thing going on subliminally.

And now that I think about it, the only times I’ve caught that nicotine buzz that turned into nausea lately were:

1. around Christmas, Nightcap on an empty stomach, two bowls back to back, sipping ice water.

2. Royal Yacht taking me by surprise with its strength, middle of the day, sipping sparkling water.
