Your Opinions on This Peterson

Those who know me on the forum know that I am partial to smoking and collecting metal-frame pipes, but while recently scanning Etsy for estate pipes, this Peterson Irish Free State caught my attention:

As you can see, I had the pipe reserved. Since I had purchased a pipe from him previously, I tried to bargain with him, and he agreed to forgo the $8.00 postage charge.
So, I'm interested in getting your opinions on whether this would be a worthwhile purchase or not.

I looked at that pipe myself. It's a nice looking pipe with great grain as well as being a rare find.

Those old Peterson's are great smoking pipes.
I've bought some pipes, including two Comoy's Canadians from Jason recently. They were nicely restored and the price was fair, in my opinion. Jason is a nice guy to do business with.
If I hadn't depleted my PAD funds, I would have seriously considered buying this pipe.
What better way to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day? I say go for it.

That shop owner was on here for a brief period of time. I think he also lives in Maryland. He has some nice items and that one is a beaut!

If there are no underlying problems, this looks like a gem. It's a classic style, so it isn't a period piece

stuck back in the time it was manufactured. I don't think Peterson makes anything like this now.

I haven't priced similar pipes and don't follow the estate pipe market, but my sense is that the price

is fair but no bargain. You're paying something for intelligent and thorough restoration. If the pipe

is sound, and you find it pleasing as a work of craftsmanship, I don't think you'd regret it.

I'm definitely going ahead with the purchase, and I thank all those who offered their opinions.

Al is correct. It's New Market, Maryland, not Delaware.

Looks like a great old pipe. If you're curious as to how well it's priced I think ChuckW is still on here and he knows a lot about Peterson pipes. He'd more than likely be able to give you a rough ballpark value.
