I have two of them and to me they are especially good with English/Balkan. They are light end always perfectly dry at the end of the smoke

I've never smoked one, and from what I've read here and other places, I don't think I ever will. People are always trying to come up with a new pipe making material that will beat briar and meerschaum. I wish them luck, they're going to need it.

I would say you are missing out.
If you get a carver that knows how to work with morta, its no different than any higher grade briar.
Smokes cooler, and doesnt ghost as easily. If someone told me that was the only type of pipe I could have, I would be perfectly fine with it.

By the way, for anyone else interested in Morta, Artem Shcherbak from the Ukraine, all I see him making are Morta pipes, might be worthwhile to follow his work on Instagram, he has some nice lookers.

I like the idea, but after looking further into the hit/miss on density and susceptibility to cracking/burnout the juice doesn’t seem worth the squeeze.
Mind you, I’m pretty simple and don’t have expendable funds to drop a good amount of coin on itch-scratchers that will be looked at a lot and used rarely. I just don’t have a job for this particular tool at present.

I think my favorite aspect of morta is the sociability aspect. You can't walk into a pipe shop and light up without being asked about your pipe. It's a great addition to any collection but it should never be the piece that begins said collection.
I do enjoy my Davorian morta. I comissioned this one a couple years ago. He hit each of my specifications. I will say that this will be the only morta that I will purchase. I like my morta, but love my briars.
I don't own one, nor do I have plans to do so. I'm pretty content with my pipe collection as it stands now, but if I was to add another pipe it would most likely be a meerschaum. Not that I don't have enough of those already.
