I really enjoy DFK, I do find it to be the BBQ equivalent/alternative to the incense quality of Latakia; which I also like. I'm a huge fan of BBQ foods and the smoke its self while you're making those foods so that probably has something to do with it. I can relate to the hickory flavor some mentioned and I love it.

Some of my favorite blends with DFK are Mac Baren ODF, GLP Sextant, KBV Dark Fired Cherry, Dobolone D'oro. Those blends have done a great job of getting the DFK working in harmony with the other tobaccos and they're just really enjoyable for me.

If any of you are familiar with the smell of burning "black jack oak trees", would you say this resembles the typical scent of a DFK/KFC?

Black jack oaks are very common in OK and as a result are often used to build camp fires. Having grown up around this smell, it is somewhat "nostalgic" but has a sharp quality to it that is not found in most other wood smokes. I can still remember the nostril-singing scent it gives off when it first starts burning.

I have grown to love the BBQ like aroma of latakia blends so maybe it'll take some time to appreciate DFKs.

Not familiar with black jack oak unless it goes by another name around here or something. To me DFK usually smells like a combination of hickory and red oak, your typical barbecue woods in the Southeastern US.

I've found im a big DFK fan! Just today I tried the Drew Estates cigar and really like the flavor. Also been working on a tin of John Cotton Double Pressed Kentucky. It really hits the spot for me. I'm looking forward to diving deeper into DFK. Ive also found im not a huge fan of Perique, which being from Louisiana, kinda disappoints me, but so it goes.
 
I still have a bunch of Drew Estate Kentucky fried dog rockets sealed up in a CVault, and don’t see myself lighting another one up for the foreseeable future.
I've been a big fan of the MUWAT Kentucky Fire Cured sticks, and just got in my order from SPcom of the Swamp Thangs. Funny how tastes can be so different.
 
There are other types of fire cure, but commercially, it has gotten dwindled down to mostly Kentucky Fire Cured (saying KFC just makes me want greasy chicken). I think that GH&co and SG may still use a Fire Cured Dark Virginia. And, there are still some tobacco producers for the cigarette industry that makes a light Virginia Fire Cured.

But, yeh, I think marketing has reduced most US tobacco blenders down to just using KFC, maybe because it's finger licking good. puffy

I'm not sure if there are any blends I like for which DFK is a significant component. Perhaps Orlick's Dark Kentucky Flakes or SG 1792. Besides those two, I suspect I may be perfectly happy in a world without DFK.

GH Kendal Kentucky, which is supposedly 100% DFK, albeit grown in Africa, leaves me cold. Folks seem to like ODF. Maybe it might change my mind.
