If I drink before 5 pm I'm wrecked for the rest of the day. So , while l like the image . It's not for me. Coffee. The real stuff (Italian style) not that weird stuff you Americans drink(sic)
I have enjoyed coffee from many cultures around the world but I have not been to Italy. Is your coffee what we would call expresso here in the US? I used to drink a lot of expresso, often 8 to 12 shots of espresso per day when I was commuting 3 hours each way.
Now that I am retired I rarely drink coffee. Usually I drink a very strong half liter of tea with sugar and cream. I realize some of our British friends may be aghast had my use of cream instead of milk, but that's what I enjoy.

When I've had coffee in the states it's been very thin. Cappuccino is my drink of choice in the morning and shots in the afternoon

Years ago my late wife and I stayed with a "real drinker" for a week on the West Coast. I marveled at how early and often this person enjoyed a drink. I mean, they were really in shape for it. My parents drank way more than I ever did, and I don't think they ever saw me with a buzz, much less drunk. No drinks for me until afternoon, for beer and wine, or evening, and usually with food, and usually just one.

My folks had to have their gin martinis. My dad drank right into his eighties. Luckily, his son-in-law, a sturdy Dutchman, was happy to join him.

Only on weekends, when I am not working. In the morning, once before having a black coffee, or a tea with milk, or fruit tea, then, if I have a shot of scotch or whiskey, with a cigar or pipe tobacco. Here in Spain it is an old tradition of our parents and grandparents to have a small glass. A mixture of brandy with anisette, it is called, sol y sombra. That is to say, they had their first coffee with a sol y sombra. Or coffee with brandy, before going to work, in the cafeterias of the town, or near their places of work. They still do it, but only those of my generation, upwards. Between 50 to 70 years old.View attachment 245831
A wonderful tradition, hope You boys in the south will keep it going and alive, Viva Espania!

There will always be folks who will want to let you know that they wouldn't have a drink in the morning.

Fine.

Don't.

But there are times when I very thankful that I am not handicapped or restrained by such virtues.

In moderation, there is unlimited expansion to embrace liberty.

I am so thankful to be a Libertarian.

I'm neither handicapped nor restrained, it just does not agree with me.
I have very few virtues, vices a fortiori.

I don't think of it as a handicap at all. Certainly not a virtue. I just realize that a drink in the morning means drinking all day long.

I do need to be careful and respectful that for some individuals that this occasional practice would not end well for them. Hell, I certainly am mindful that it can never be a regular daily thing or else i would end up as mush. I was really thinking about my preachy neighbors who are always happy to let me know what they would NEVER do. I appreciate your thoughts.

Bloody Marys, Sangrias and even a nice, cold, citrusy IPA are solid accompaniments to wash down rich morning eggs and brunch-type fare; a little, occasional “heaven on earth” for me (though too rarely). The pipe doesn’t get smoked with those drinks at that time, though. It’s been Upmann 100 white label cigars as a favorite with high quality, strong, black coffee. Dunhill/Lane’s morning pipe was also good with the Joe… years and tears ago.

I love a good Bloody Mary or a beer on occasion at a brunch. I tend to stick to the more savory brunch drinks because if I’m eating brunch out, I’m already going to be indulging in syrup or jam with a waffle/biscuit.
