Only been smoking a week...today my favorite is this Burley the Wife bought me cut with 1/3 of the cigarette tobacco I use. The long toothers may be aghast but I like it! My second fave is a local cherry blend that I hven't learned how to smoke without scorching myself too much. It taste great at first but gets hot real easy so for now Im using my blend cuz I didn't really like the Burley that well. Seemed to lack the punch in flavor I expected and Im used to cigarette flavor so for now Im quite enjoying it. Any tobacco suggestions for a long time cig smoker but first time pipe smoker? Btw, I have one cheap Italian Briar my wife bought(see intro forum) and a couple cobs and I love the cobs but the other pipe burns real hot to me.

My suggestion on a blend for a cigarette smoker would be Peterson's University Flake. It's a Virginia/Burley flake that has a very light, hardly noticeable, plum casing and packs a lot of vitamin-n (nicotine). Plus I've never had it burn really hot at all. It stays lit very well and is less of a fight, especially outdoors, than the typical ribbon cut tobaccos. Flakes take a little work, because you have to either rub them out or do the fold and stuff method, but they've burned cooler for me and tend to stay lit better.

You might enjoy Half & Half, which is half burley and half Virginia. When it first was marketed it was Lucky Strike Half & Half.

Daughters and Ryan's S.J. Rimboché or J. F. Germain & Son's Royal Jersey Perique Mixture would fill the bill nicely; both with touches of pipe tobacco elegance. If you want a really hard nicotine kick, in the style of Five Brothers, then try D&R's Picayune. For a more mild transition blend I think there's none better than Prince Albert.
All of these should be available from Pipes And Cigars.com, so you can buy some of each and maybe save a little money on the shipping costs.

Mac Baren Club Blend. It is unusually cool and damp here in GA. Great pipe smoking weather!

In spite of many "superior" tobaccos in my larder, I am really enjoying Middleton's Cherry Blend in my freehand cob - so much so that I went out and picked up another box of it! This blend and this cob seem made for each other. It's a nice, well behaved cherry blend that doesn't even seem like a cherry blend when it's on fire. Love it!

My current favorite is FMOTT. It has gotten promoted to my tobacco pouch, so any time I'm smoking away from home, that's the choice.
(My son, who has a great nose, says the tin note (smeel of the tobacco unburned) is like charred barbecue ribs.)
On another front, I surrender: I looked at the forum glossary and it was no help. What is "1Q"?
