Capstan Blue Flake. It has a certain something that none of the other blends have. A kind of subtle, dry sweetness, more marzipan than fruit, but subtle.
When Union Square is at its best, I may like it even better. But it's inconsistent for me.
Capstan Blue is a close second.
I'll tip my hat to Newminster 400 as a delicious VA, too, but to me the topping is strong enough to call into question whether it's more Aromatic than Straight VA.
I don't fancy straight Virginias too often but when I do I always reach for Peterson Flake or Wessex Brown Flake. More rarely (because it's so hard to get and I don't have a ton), I will open a tin of J.F. Germain's Medium Flake as a treat.
I think we're lucky in this day & age to have so many great Virginias to choose from. Only one favourite though & for me that's GH's Westmorland Slices.
