Todd, I took up the pipe when I was Navy A-school. A few POs gave me dirty looks until the Command Master Chief said it was "true Navy" (as long as I didn't smoke "on the move").
Let me know where you are and what you like and I'll send you a care package.

Well since I'm in Canada, most people think I'm smoking pot, which I never do in my pipe ;) , but here in canada, its almost better if you smoke pot then cigarettes, i smoke all 3 lol. I usually get the wink, the snicker about pot. But it's mostly how good it smells. I'm also 25 and Asian, so it kind of throws people off lol.

I think in Europe people are more chilled about this issue than in North America....where I live (Scotland) no one cares if i walk down the street with a pipe in my mouth, and if I get comments it's usually positive ("wow that smells great!")...in other Euro countries, particularly France, but also Italy, Germany, Denmark etc. pipe smoking is not unusual (and in France, it seems like everyone smokes something) so it's no big deal...

I started 10 yrs ago smoking pipes, wile i was 23 and i remember i got some strange looks from people walking by, from friends, just the normal comments, "you're crazy", "pipe smoking is for older people", "that will kill u","what are you trying to show?", bla bla bla.
I stopped smoking pipes for almost 9 yrs, and restarted 1 yr ago, and although in 33 i still get strange looks from people (i look younger than 33, like 25-28). Maybe its 'cause in Argentina it's not so common to see people smoking pipes, but been in Europe last month (France, Spain, Holland, Belgium, U.K.) and in all of them i smoked, and no one cared about, they're more open minded and its more common.

I have been smoking since I was 18. The first time I walked into my b&m I got a few strange looks. Now ten years later and fully bearded I get those a lot less. People my age don't really seem to care. Most of the reactions I get are positive. The one exception is middle aged women, and I could care less about what they think.
Also there are a few occupiers I've seen smoking a pipe, so they can't all be that bad. Who knows there may even be a few on this forum. Its seems that this forum can't to stay away from the political despite forum rules.

99% of the comments are either "that's awesome!" or "omg, you're a girl!"
I tell the 1% to suck my dick. Well, unless it's my dad doing the complaining but he bitches about EVERYTHING.

Im glad I have the privelage of doing 85% of my smoking on 13 acres surrounded by woods. The only reactions I get come from my better half. Which are limited to how good, or bad, whatever im smoking smells. Otherwise, smoking in my truck, im to busy watching the road to be worried about if people look at me or not. I love living in the boonies 8)

I'm a youngster, 26, with a beard. Usually I get positive comments on the smell of the pipe when I'm out in public smoking. A lot of times when I tell friends I smoke pipes they reply "Like Sherlock Holmes?". So far I've never had negative comments on my pipe smoking. Nothing of the whole "Aren't you too young?" or any of the "You'll get cancer." comments.

I haven't really smoked much in public yet but after 23 years of dipping snuff and 16 years of nails during that, my family and friends that have experienced my pipes are happy that I have made a change. I Haven't smoked a nail in 7 years and no snuff since April. Every one seems to approve so far.

I've been growing out my beard for the last 2 months, so a lot of people will just come up to me and say "fear the beard!" and tell me that I look just like Brian Wilson. The other group will chuckle and tell me that the pipe suits me. Because I'm a pretty big guy, I don't really get any snide remarks.

I can't grow a beard.
But in other news, most people either regard my pipe as an object of curiosity, or don't even regard me at all.
Though a cute lady came up and asked me about it, and wanted to try it. I think she was trying to flirt, but knowing me I was too dense to notice.
Oh well, maybe we'll bump into each other again.
