Harris - I heard from a couple of folks who warned me about those square tins. For tobacco you store in tins, there will be some failure rate that will cause you to open up a tin full of dust in 7 or 8 years. I have been told by people who have been through it that the failure rate for the square and rectangular tins is much higher than for the round tins. This is all anecdotal, but I figured better safe than sorry so I'm putting them in airtight bins. One piper told me that he started doing this with his square tins, and when he opened the bin up in a few years a rush of tobacco smell came out. Shows that the some of the tins will fail over time as his did, albeit in the bin so the tobacco was fine.
