First blend I ever had was Mac Baren Original Choice. I have a tin or two in my cellar, but I'm avoiding the urge to open anything else right now (I have three dozen active 16 oz. jars, and that's overwhelming enough). One day I might get around to it, and I'm sure it will be the same sort of nostalgic experience as you had/have.

First pipe I ever had was a pearwood bent billiard off Amazon by JoyOldElf, just to see if I liked it. Ended up getting fatally ghosted by Vauen Auenland Evening Mixture, and given to a stranger who didn't mind.

Funny timing of your post.
I haven't visited the Capt'n Black that I first smoked because it seems any overly topped Aro is just not for me. However smoking a pipe with an old friend just last night at the bar I did notice an easiness and effortlessness, a cool pipe, few relights, and about an hour-long bowl, that I never could have conceived of when I first took up the pipe. What a journey.
