Although it does occasionally happen I like to think the tranquility of pipe smoking demands pipe smoking etiquette forbid any such nonsense.

I've been here for a little while and seen a few threads get blackholed because of politics. That is certainly not the norm though. I find that it is usually a few regulars who go off and get a thread locked.

We are actually pretty well behaved around here.

I met up with a fellow forum member yesterday at a cigar bar, and as cigar bars usually go, there was talk of sports and politics. Which was totally fine, because it’s a cigar bar. But I then turned to the fellow forum member and said to him: “You know what I like about the Pipes Magazine forums? No one talks about politics.” He agreed with me.

Now, I’ve only been lurking this forum since Summer 2018, but I cannot recall one political thread or a thread that devolved into a political thread. We mostly just stick to pipes and tobacco, which, in an era where everything is politicized, is super refreshing.

I go on other forums and somehow everything is brought back to politics. I am thinking about leaving a certain hockey forum because of this. It is seriously a religion to some people. This forum has instead been a haven for me, where I can get away from news (which even my iPhone and Samsung TV now push on me) and the cares of the day. Thank you to everyone, and may everyone have a blessed Thanksgiving.
I love talking Politics, but “almost” no one talks politics. I can’t stand to talk in an echo room. I’ve been known to throw a few zingers here, but you know, this is a place where we can escape. No need for all of the stress of politics here. Great Post. Happy Thanksgiving!

It does happen occasionally but, the mods are very good (thankfully) at shutting it down. Let's keep it to the real subject at hand.

Amen to that. Bless the mods for keeping the threads on topic and away from tendentious politics.

I flipping hate Cromwell and all his crackpot Puritanical weirdness. I’m SO triggered now, but I’m IBTL.

See, now that’s the sort of spicy take I can handle. I was actually being a provocateur there, I’m pretty sure I’m with you. Restore the Stuarts! In fact, I’m not even sure it wouldn’t be a good idea to restore the Stuarts again, now in the 21st century.

Thankfully, politics that’s so old that no one cares is just called history.

OP - great post, and to the point. Agreed!
Hope we can keep it this way - pipes, tobacco, and related matter.
Plenty of OTHER places to delve into anyone’s other “hobbies”!?

I like the fact the OP in any given thread starts the convo with with an honest question or statement of which for the first 50 or so reply’s will be in line then........from nowhere it rapidly evolves into millennials vs baby boomers or whatever. This is awesome and educational all at the same time! Oh, and happy Thanksgiving to all of you stateside members?. Sorry, couldn’t find a green bean casserole emoji
And again.........I rest my case. This is awesome as hell!
