You Can Lead a Horse to Water .... Sellers of Pipes Who Have Absolutely No Idea

Every now and then I'll come across a pipe auction on eBay where the seller has absolutely no idea what they are doing.
This "unsmoked" Castello, for example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/163018477429
You can send them a message, but they won't be having any of that. It took 5 minutes of Google research to come to the conclusion that it's unsmoked, after all. Who is anyone to tell them differently?

What I like even more is that you can go and buy a brand new one for about half the money. Lesson in eBay buying, always cross check the pricing, always study those photos carefully.

The color balance is off I am sure, maybe way off.

Ah yes, another eBay legend who was the subject of an immense brouhaha a couple of years back for selling Chinese faked Danish high grades, including an obviously faked Nordh that some brain donor bought for $8300. eBay did nothing about it, then, or since.

Another in my long list of reasons not to buy on ebay, but I'm glad for Forums members who pick up some goodies, despite all.

There will always be some fraudulent sellers anywhere. Not only on ebay. Even the older famed auction houses receive fake art for auction occassionally, which may go under their expert's radar. However, in general, I presume the risk is low, when buying estates or new pipes on ebay if from a seller with at least near 100 pct positive rating from say +10 pipe sales?

In any case if spending thousands of dollars on collector pipes, one would assume collectors would do their homework...
