My question is, what happens to someone who just joined the 5000 club, and then loses enough posts in the category culling that they drop below 5000. Do they temporarily lose their newfound elite status? Or does a wormhole in the space-time continuum open up?

Or does a wormhole in the space-time continuum open up?

Woah, okay, I think I just answered my own question... 😵‍💫

If you drop below 5000 you'll lose your Geriatric status and your title will read Generic Millennial.

Fortunately, it's a moot point; I stayed well above the threshold.

I don't know if I care for that, though. I prefer the slightly misspelled alternate, genetic millennial. Or maybe genital millionaire. Might have to put this one up to a vote.

Kevin, any chance of bringing back polls? Those were great fun!

Suggestion: a category specifically for DIY posts. This could include tobacco blending, pipe mods, and self-made pipes and accessories like tampers and racks, etc. Yeah, there's the repair and maintenance category, but those posts don't quite fit in there.

But how will the new members know where the center of the known universe is? 😎
I suspect that the Universe knows, so it doesn't need reminding.

But should some newbie wash up on our shores with a question, he will be welcomed just the same.

Only, there won't be a line up of newbie introductions for some enterprising but lazy member to access and process all at once, effectively blowing all new topics off the front page in the process.

For that improvement, I'm content to sacrifice the Center Of The Known Universe!

My preference would have been to keep it, let them introduce themselves and if people wanted to "like" it to encourage them, it is a nice gesture, but no comments to not clutter up things for others.
Kevin is on the money on this one.
Intro posts are completely unnecessary blah blah, and everyone’s WELCOME FROM HERES A PICTURE OF A POSTCARD is completely useless.
Yay Kevin.

Yes, who cares about new members who enjoy smoking a pipe? I wonder if there is any support to go another step further and eliminate those useless, annoying threads for posting pics of opening a tin or what one is smoking now, in order to make room for the more relevant and popular threads for cigars, bacon, Whoppers, bicycles, and the Pope?

Well…………. I, very much enjoyed reading about the new members and their pipe smoking experiences and where they lived, etc. I found it varried, interesting, informative and certainly not repetitive like the postings in the *** What Are You Smoking *** section with many of the same pictures of pipes, cats and mug shots ( I may get banned for that ) which I stopped following for that reason. And, if it was about giving counts/points to the people who welcomed them but didn’t contribute in other areas so what ? Simple, don’t count those post for ranking purposes! Not everyone has years of experience a sophisticated pallet or an extensive collection of pipes or cellar of tobacco and feels they need to or may be qualified to comment on some of the topics but certainly find them informative and interesting.

Welcome from New Jersey. puffy

Guess not being in here as much lately I missed the whole issue - I was happy to introduce myself years ago but I've never done the welcome to others because I just don't have/make the time but thought it was a very nice gesture on the part of those who regularly took the time to do it, or on anyone's part, for that matter.

I'm assuming without knowing there was some problem that needed solving, but scratching my head as to what that may have been (and too lazy to go searching around to figure it out).
