Ive begun to bid on the roughest looking pipe I can find ...fewer bidders and MOST of the time I end up with a very nice pipe.

I use a linen wheel on a bench grinder with an initial coat of marine grade hull polish, once its generally clean and somewhat glossy I wipe it down with whatever alcohol i happen to have on hand...usually rum.

This dulls it up again and pulls off any remaining dirt. After a few seconds drying time it gets a real good buff on the wheel with carnauba wax. So far, so good.

Very nice flanative. At one time I used pure carnauba wax to go over old furniture such as dressers for customers. The more you rubbed the finish, the more it gave the wood grain a 3-D appearance.Women would beg for the product and its name, but I couldn't let them know what it was for future income reasons.I bought it at almost any auto care shop, and it was a hard paste.Made a lot of money with it.

hobie1dog said-"Is this the bar of carnauba wax?..not out of a can?"
It came in a plastic can about 3 to 4 inches high, and the same diameter, with a screw top lid.I often wondered why they didn't just make it into a bar because it was hard enough to hold its shape. The biggest buyers were those with fancy and expensive paint automotive paint jobs.

I have a couple of pounds of carnauba wax. I mix it with a bit of trups for furniture and turnings. For pipes I hold a block against a spinning buff until it gives of a kind of floral smell then polish to a glorious shine.
