XXV Reserve: A Celebration of 25 Years of Smokingpipes

I was able to grab some of the Dawn. Not a big DFK fan so I skipped Dusk. For the 20th anniversary SP blends I skipped the regular and only bought the XX Dark Flake and later wished I'd bought some of the regular XX Flake. Hopefully this isn't an instance where I should've learned from past mistakes. Otherwise I'll finally get it right for the 30th anniversary blends

I have Facebook but rarely check it. I know there’s a number of pipe groups on it though.

Instagram has a solid pipe scene. I find a lot of new artisan carvers through it. It’s also fun to see what friends are up to, like Pete Prevost posted a lot of pics of his trip to St Claude for the pipe show.

You're not alone there. In the early days of the internet my friend called the world wide web the world's biggest garbage dump. He had it pegged.

The early early days of the Internet were jolly civil, especially Usenet discussions, and the web was in its infancy with beta versions of the Mosaic browser. Email was still sent using bangpaths. Microsoft thought it was all a passing fad and didn't support it. Then came the September that never ended, someone plugged AOL in and so spam began. The prevailing emotion was absolute dismay.

The Facebook pipe groups are where the real $hitshow is. Each one usually ends up dominated by one moron or another, if they’re not overrun by crossposting. And when there is disagreement, one or more aggrieved party takes their ball and just starts yet another group.

Very little fanfare about this release. I saw their story on IG a few days ago, that’s the only way I knew about it at all. I watched the forum for excited murmurings but nobody was talking about it. I found it interesting that they didn’t even offer up any specifics on components, no early access reviews, nada. Just here’s some 25 year old VA’s, enjoy.

I don’t have a problem with limited releases like a lot of people seem to… especially since they keep everything very fairly priced. They could charge double for 25 year old tobacco and it would still sell out, but they don’t, and I appreciate that. I snagged 5 Dusk, that’s more than plenty for me. Looking forward to reading what people’s initial impressions are, as I’m sure I won’t crack one for years.

Got me some! I love Virginia's, I love Perique, and I love how these guys source and use them.

I may now be broke, but I'm in heaven!

The original Anthology was one of the best VaPers I've ever had. When C&D gets it right, they really hit it out of the park. Given the components and what should be an active resale market down the road it's worth taking the risk to stock up on a blend I've never had before. Dusk sounds like my jam, so how could I not?

I got a few of each. Big deal for Sykes to run that business for 25 years. I'm happy for him, it's not as easy as it looks. And I'll bet the tobacco will be very good. Congratulations on 25!

So I read the “dope” on what these two blends are all about in an email that dropped about an hour ago.

Kinda like CRF & CRF /Perique…

I was tempted to buy some - but that passed.

I was intrigued with the addition of Italian Dark Fired in the Dusk blend though… I’ll probably just add some Sansepolcro to some CRF /w Perique to get that experience.
